Pterygium New York / New Jersey
WHAT IF I AM NOT FROM THE
NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY AREA?
First, please send close-up photographs of your eyes (see instructions) to email@example.com to determine if you are a good candidate for IsoWhiteTM pterygium removal surgery. If the photos look appropriate, an examination and surgery can be scheduled for the same day at either our office in Elizabeth or River Drive Surgical Center in Elmwood Park. (There is a small chance that based on pre-operative examination, it may be deemed that you are not a good candidate for surgery — for example, if you are found to have high pressure in your eyes.)
Flying into Newark Liberty International Airport is the most convenient for your appointment. Our Elizabeth office is a 10 minute drive from the airport, and River Drive Surgical Center is just 30 minutes away. We suggest using Uber or a local taxicab service to get to the offices from Newark Liberty.
You may choose to stay overnight locally and be seen the next day.
For patients having surgery at Dr. Klein’s Elizabeth office, most patients choose to stay at the Marriott in Newark Liberty International Airport.
1 Hotel Rd, Newark, NJ 07114
If patients are having surgery at River Drive Surgery Center, a hotel close by is:
138 New Pehle Avenue, Saddle Brook, NJ 07663
Alternatively, patients may choose to stay in nearby Manhattan. If your surgical procedure is scheduled at River Drive Surgery Center, the Upper West Side of Manhattan is closest; if you are scheduled in Elizabeth, the West Village or Soho should be considered.
The post-operative care for pterygium surgery is straightforward. Patients should be seen post-operatively after one week, and then again after one month. If you are still in the New York/New Jersey area one week after surgery, you can be seen again by Dr. Klein or Dr. Scannapiego. If you are no longer in the area, our office will give you instructions for your care, which can be coordinated with your local ophthalmologist.
